"Learning Time" is the period of your active learning that eJOY records based on the following formulas:

Learning Time = Input time + Speaking time + Writing time

Here's what each term means:

  • Input time: This refers to the time spent playing input games (Flash card, Matching, Multiple Choice, Word Constructor, Rearrange), watching videos, and reading articles.
  • Speaking time: This is the time taken playing games that involve speaking skills (Shadow, Role play, Speak).
  • Writing time: This is the time taken playing games that involve writing skills (Fill in the blank, Writing).

1. How to calculate video watching time

  • The time spent watching a video is calculated from when you press "Start" until the video ends or you press "Done" and exit the video screen.
  • If you pause the video and resume later, the paused time is subtracted.
  • In case you leave the video running continuously for several hours, the application will only record a maximum time according to the formula:

Maximum time = Video length * 3 (up to 2 hours).

2. How to calculate article-reading time

Trulli
  • The time spent reading an article is measured from when you start the article until you lookup the last word before exiting. If you don't interact with the article (meaning: not looking up words, saving words) then it's not counted.
  • If you leave the device idle on the reading screen for several hours, the application will only record a maximum time according to the formula:

Max time = Total number of characters in the article / 250 * 60 (in seconds) and max 30 minutes.

3. How to calculate video game-playing time

  • The time spent on each game session is calculated from when you press "Start" until the end of the game, when the result screen appears.
  • If you quit the game without completing it or intentionally exit the app, your learning time = 0.
  • If the app suddenly crashes due to a bug, it cannot track the time you had already spent learning. Hence, eJOY recommends studying short videos under 3 minutes for the best experience.
  • If you pause the game and resume later, the paused time is subtracted. If you leave the game midway and let the device idle for a long time, then return to complete the game, the application will only record a maximum time according to the formula:

Maximum time = video length *2 (up to 2 hours)

  • However, for writing games, the max time = video length *10 (up to 2 hours) because these take longer than other games.

4. How to calculate training and course game-playing time

Trulli
  • The time spent playing is also calculated from when you press "Start" until you finish and the result screen appears.
  • If you pause the game and resume later, that paused time is subtracted.
  • If you quit the game in the middle or intentionally exit the app, your learning time = 0.
  • Sometimes, if the app suddenly stops working due to a bug, it can't count the time you've already spent learning. Therefore, when rehearsing vocabulary with training games, eJOY suggests studying less than 10 words per session, so that any sudden app crash doesn't significantly impact your recorded study time.
